Many men have become dads while serving as a Member of Congress, but the same isn't true for female Members. And only Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has the distinction of having three children since her tenure began in 2006 as eastern Washington state's representative in the U.S House of Representatives. Congresswoman Rodgers will address the Family Research Council tomorrow, Wednesday October 28, 2015, at 12:00 pm. For those cannot personally attend the free luncheon at the FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C., a webcast is available here: http://www.frc.org/events/witherspoon-lecture-the-role-of-congress-in-protecting-american-values-and-life.

Witherspoon Lecture: The Role of Congress in Protecting American Values and Life

When the founding fathers wrote our nation’s Constitution, they created Congress to function as one of the crucial supports of a three-legged stool, the others being the executive and judicial.

Unfortunately, despite gains in civil rights for persons of color, human dignity is still under attack. What elites call “advances” have opened the door to sophisticated new assaults on life from conception to natural death. When society deems certain lives as less valuable than others, whole classes of people become vulnerable to exclusion from “equal protection under the law”.

Thankfully, there are some Members of Congress who still take human dignity seriously.  Join one of them, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, as she comes to discuss the role Congress plays in preserving and protecting a culture of life here in the United States.

As human as you and me, by Christopher Mann

Life's Intrinsic vs. Utilitarian Worth

By Christopher Mann for In Business For Life
If you were born without an arm, would you be an "almost human?" How about a brain? One of the central beauties of the Christian witness in history is its primacy on mercy. Since the time of Rome when Christians would rescue abandoned babies to the present day where Christians adopt abused, neglected and disabled children from far-away lands, this is one of the most potent weapons of the church -- the refusal to value life on the altar of utility.

In Business For Life salutes Brandon and Brittany Buell, parents of Jaxton who was born in 2014 with a rare brain malformation known as microhydranencephaly. Much of Jaxon's brain failed to form, leaving him significantly impaired, but the Buell's have chosen to value their son not on the scales of how useful he is in the world's eyes, but according to his intrinsic value as an image of God.

If the picture of little Jaxon prompts you to recoil in grief, welcome to the crowd; anybody with a pulse and an ounce of mercy in his heart will grieve over a condition like Jaxon's. But IBFL sends kudos to the Buell family and to David Wright at ABC News (@WrightUps)for filming and airing this important report on how Brand and Brittany are doing what parents do -- daily falling deeper in love with their son.
The Buell family have a GoFundMe.com campaign to help cover Jaxon's medical expenses.

1-Pound Baby Kept Alive in Freezer Bag Celebrates His First Birthday

In Business For Life salutes Rachel Crockett and partner Craig Walkow for discovering that babies should be protected from abortion at least at the 20th week of life. We have another salute ready for when they figure out that every baby deserves life, regardless of age.

In Business For Life salutes
Leanne and Chris Duffield for bravely declining easy options and pursuing life for their 23 week-old premie. This has special significance for me, as my wife and I lost our first baby, Spencer, in 1996 due to his premature birth at 23 weeks. It is wonderful to see stories like this emerging, kind of like athletes who were pursuing the four minute mile; what was was "impossible" is increasingly becoming possible, if only we change our perspective and governing assumptions.

He Prayed Outside Abortion Clinics as a Kid, Now He's About to Become a U.S. Senator

By Christopher Mann

In Business For Life salutes U.S. Senate candidate Ben Sasse for his pro-life commitment. Up by over 20 points in most polls, Sasse is the heavily favored candidate to represent Nebraska in the United States after next month's election, and he is a strong pro-lifer.
